FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. I just need one grant written, will you take single assignments?

Yes! While the majority of B&A clients use the full spectrum of services and support, we are happy to talk with you about assisting with one specific proposal.

2. How much time do you need to write a grant?

This varies. The average time B&A is given to develop a grant opportunity is approximately four (4) weeks. Typically, our staff work within a two (2) to eight (8) week time period.

3. Isn't grant writing expensive?

Grant writing is a profession with skills honed over many years in order to win consistently in the industry. Chances are, you are using staff that are not trained in grant writing and there is frustration in not consistently winning. Using a professional grant writer is more cost-effective than you might think so please call for an estimate and to learn more about B&A’s pricing practices that protect you every step of the way.

4. What other benefits come with grant writing?

Paying for grant writing should be viewed as a strategic risk with multiple benefits. Many times, a grant writing effort will mobilize a community in ways that could have never been accomplished without the looming “grant deadline.” Building a grant proposal helps shape ideas, projects, and programs and puts those ideas on paper with a budget, timeline, and objectives. The end product is to win funding but it can also be used for a variety of other purposes for many years to come.

5. I'm getting ready for an audit on my grants, can you help?

Yes! Preparing for an audit can seem daunting and time consuming. B&A has a variety of practices that can streamline the audit process and prepare you for success. B&A is a leader in post-award compliance and would enjoy sharing with you some of our best practices.

6. Will you write my grant based on contingency or bonus?

Grant writing is a profession and our writers have spent multiple years developing their skill. Developing a grant proposal contingent upon award places our grant writers in a situation that could lead to practices deemed unethical including collaborating with funding agency staff when collaboration is not allowed. To that end, B&A adheres to the American Grant Writers’ Association’s Standards of Professional Practice. Standard 23 addresses this issue as follows:

The Grant Consulting business may not accept compensation that is a retainer, bonus, commission-based, or contingency-based.

Ethical Practice:

The Grant Consulting business may set fees for services on an hourly or project basis only.

Unethical Practice:

The Grant Consulting business accepts a fee that is characterized as a retainer. The Grant Consulting business accepts a fee that was calculated, by any method, based on the amount of the grant award. The Grant Consulting business accepts a bonus. The Grant Consulting business accepts a fee that was contingent upon the client being awarded the grant.
